Read every chat message in your own language. Chat Translator translates incoming chat messages and shows the translation as an extra line under the original, which stays untouched.
Works in battle chat and in the garage: platoon, clan, private messages, channels and training rooms.
Features
- 24 target languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Czech, Slovak, Russian, Ukrainian, Turkish, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Hungarian, Romanian, Bulgarian, Greek, Japanese, Korean and Chinese.
- Two translation services
- Google: free, works right away, no setup.
- DeepL: higher quality, needs your own free API key (500,000 characters per month).
- “Do not translate” list: enter languages you already understand (e.g. en, de, pl) and no translation is shown for them.
- Choose which chats are translated: battle, platoon, clan, private messages and channels can each be switched on or off.
- Protects your DeepL quota: chat spam cannot drain your free characters. After an initial burst of 2,000 characters, at most 600 characters per minute are sent to DeepL; messages beyond that are not translated.
- Your API key stays safe: the DeepL key is stored encrypted with Windows data protection (only your Windows account on this PC can read it) and is shown masked in the settings.
- Your own messages are never sent anywhere.
Requirements
This mod uses the in-game mod settings menu. Most modpacks already include these; if you don’t have them, install:
- ModsSettingsAPI (izeberg.modssettingsapi_*.wotmod)
- ModsListAPI (me.poliroid.modslistapi_*.wotmod)
Installation
- Install the required mods listed above if you don’t have them yet.
- Copy ju1ion.chattranslator_<version>.wotmod into <World of Tanks>/mods/<client version>/.
- Restart the game.
Settings
Open the settings in the garage via the mods button, entry Chat Translator. Every option has an info icon explaining what it does.
If you want to use DeepL as a translator, you need an API key: Get a free key at deepl.com/pro-api. To change it, replace the whole masked text; to remove it, clear the field.
Privacy
- Incoming chat messages are sent to the translator you selected (Google or DeepL).
- Messages in “Do not translate” languages are usually still sent, because their language is only known from the translator’s answer. Only local detection can skip some of them beforehand (non-Latin alphabets); Latin-script languages such as English, German or French are always sent.
- Your own messages are never sent.
- Nothing is sent while the mod is switched off or for chats you have disabled.
Good to know
- Google translation uses Google’s free public endpoint, which Google may limit or change at any time. If Google rate-limits requests, the mod pauses for a minute.
- With DeepL, messages in “Do not translate” languages still count against your quota (see Privacy).
